So here's the history. I got a new device and it can play video off SD cards and from a USB drive. I spent quite a bit of time trying to get the encoding right. I've looked through the manual, Google, etc. The only way I was able to encode a video to get it to work on the device was to use an older version of Handbrake (0.9.3) and encode the file as an Mpeg-4 XviD with AVI as the container. That worked perfect. However, I'd like to use the latest version of Handbrake, or even different software if that will work. Here's the list of acceptable formats according to the manual.

I've tried every program I can think of. Some of them work sometimes, some give me errors for certain videos and not others. I just want to be able to batch convert a bunch of files at once. So far the closest I've got is using StaxRip. It worked on a few files for me, but on others gave me errors. The only luck I've had is encoding with AVI as the container. Nothing else has worked for me.

Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

It clearly states the only supported video formats are DivX (v3, v4, v5.2, v6) in .avi or .divx. Only the DivX® encoder from divx.com encodes in a .divx container, which leaves .avi (mpeg-4 part 2) as the only option for any other encoder.
So I'm a bit puzzled why you want to give up on software that works (HandBrake 0.9.3)?

I've tried so many different programs in the last few days and I don't remember 100% why I moved on from Handbrake. If I remember correctly, as soon as I try to scroll through the video on the device I'd lose sound.

I'm trying DivX converter right now... I also tried this at some point in the last few days and stopped using it for some reason. I need to start making notes

I saw it listed m4a in there as well, but I wasn't able to get any m4a files to play.

Ok, I was able to get DivX converter to work on some files but not all. For the ones it isn't working for I'm using the older version of Handbrake again and it works.. But as soon as I try to move around on the video I lose all sound.

So about half the files I encode with Handbrake will play and the other half say Unplayable Format. Wtf.
