but when i put them onto my memory stick and play it through my tv it says it's 3 seconds long but it plays the whole length, but when i burn them to a dvd-rw and play it on my dvd player they say they are only 3-4 seconds long and cut off and goes onto the next file but if i stop the RW it says file not supported but i know the file is fine and the previous episode played fine??
this is relly gettin up my nose..

	MUCH more info needed.
Your TV has a USB port?
Your DVD player plays AVI files?
Your DVD player plays Divx/Xvid files?
Your DVD player plays Divx/Xvid files burned to a DVD as data?
You converted and authored those AVI files to a DVD(with a VIDEO_TS folder)?
Were these AVI files possibly originally created outside of America?
 etc etc etc etc...

yes my tv has a usb port
yes my dvd player plays everything but mp4 files
yes my dvd player playes avi/divx.xvid bunt to dvd/rw
no i dont burn it as a dvd (video_ts) foler just burnt as data disc usally works fine
no idea where the avi's were created. it is an austrailian show so highly possible..

I would try a quick remux with VirtualDub first:

 1) File -> Open Video File
 2) Video -> Direct Stream Copy
 3) File -> Save as AVI

That will only take a minute.

some files do this in virdub, if click yes the audio goes out of sync, how can i get passed it?
