  1. Hi everyone. This is my first post and am really new to the video editing world so please excuse me if some of my questions seem stupid.

I have a HD mini cam that records in an MTS format and a gopro cam that is MP4. I can edit the MTS on its own and the MP4 on its own but i cannot combine the two file types. For the editing i use Sony Vegas. Can anyone give me some insight on how i can do this. Thanks

    Michael

If you are using Vegas then you should have no problems using footage from both cameras in the same project. If Vegas can edit either on it's own, then it can edit both together.

It should be possible to create a project in Sony Vegas and then :- (i) load both the MTS files and the MP4 files into that project (ii) edit the material as you wish (iii) render the project to suit your needs.
Since I read your post I have tried this using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro 9.0 . I seemed to work OK but I had no new MP4 file to use. I had to make one by converting an MTS file to MP4 using XMediaRecode and to guess the parameters to use. I do not know if this constitutes a valid test. You may also have to experiment with settings to avoid bad artefacts.
Bye the way if your cameras use SD cards (or mini DVDs) I recommend copying the files directly from the media into your computer by drag and drop . It is probably easier than using a cable and capture software.
    good luck from Mike L
