  1. I have an Elura 70 that is acting up. (Ejection door jamming...zooming uncontrollably, and sometimes just won't take a picture. Very frustrating). Anyway I have decided to convert all my videos to DVD's. Upon researching how to do this (read manual; Googled the topic and read for hours on the Sticky threads here; I can't find the answer to my question) I want to know before I buy a DV cable that it will solve my problem of how to download the video on my DV tapes to my computer. If I need more than the cable. I only have USB ports on my laptop. If the DV cable has one end as DV and the other USB will this work to capture my movies? I have worked with TMPGEnc Author Works with video on AVI files etc but that did not require a special cable to access the video. This is my second Elura 70 and as soon as I get the video onto my computer then I will ditch it. Thanks for your attention to this and helping me if you can.

A card with ports and wire will not be expensive. However, if it's only a one-time thing where you just want to pull the video and move on, then why don't you check with a few friends? Most PCs today have such ports and it should be easy to set up and do.
I hate VHS. I always did.

  4. Thanks for the information. Great thinking; just thought I would go over to the community college and do the download. I will make sure to put a Firewire port on my next computer. This is a one time thing but with about forty hours of tape.
