  1. i have 10 mp4 files donloaded from youtube . they have eng subtitles .

    how can i grab the subtitles and put them into txt or srt or anything else ?

    Please help . i also have an avi file with hardcoded subs . i want to grab subs from this as well

    Try Yamb or mp4box for mp4 and AVISubDetector for avi with hardcoded subs.

    Do the MP4 videos you saved from YouTube still have the subtitles attached? (In other words, if you're playing the videos, do the subtitles still appear?) If the subtitles appear when you play the MP4s, can you switch them on and off, or are they hardsubs (part of the video stream data itself)? Use MediaInfo to get more information on the MP4 videos (it should be able to help you determine whether or not they have subtitle streams you can extract).

    If you're using Firefox as your browser, I noticed an extension recently that might also help: YouTube Caption Downloader
    I haven't tried it, myself, though.
