I have the T2 Extreme Edition and on disk 2 it has the HD WMV9 version of the movie. I have WMP10 player and when I use the 'InterActual Player' for playback it says I need the WMV10 upgrade to play it. It has a link to the upgrade and after it's installed and verified, I try it again and it says I need the WPM10 needs the upgrade.
Has anyone been able to play this?

I have the T2 Extreme DVD as well and I have not been able to play it either. I do remember that there are more than one patch. There is a patch for the Intervideo and one for MP10. I found myself doing quite a bit of googling.
In the end I downloaded the movie to my HDD only to find out that my P4 2.52GHz/XP Home system was not fast enough to play the video. As you are aware T2 is DRM protected but what you may not know is that DRM protected files eat additional CPU. Your 2.8 XP Pro may or not be fast enough. The movie is broken into (4) parts. Download one part to your HDD. To play it, you will need to use your DVD to aquire a license. Once you do that you should be able play the downloaded file in WM10. This will not solve your problem but will tell you whether your computer has the horsepower to play it smoothly, without stuttering.
It is really frustrating!!!!bits -
Hey bits, thanks for the reply.
I have the latest version of WMP10 and the T2 patch installed. Also installed the update for InterActual player. Everytime I use the InterActual player it says I need the WMP10 T2 patch.
The movie I have is broken into 7 parts (6.5GB). Tried to play them from HD and DVD with WMP10. It says I need a licence, click OK and says to insert the DVD in the drive which is already there. Then it says to run the install from the DVD which installs the InterActual player.
I know the movie may not playback perfect but I can't even open it.
Were you able to play the movie using only WMP10?
Chas -
Yes I play it using WMP10.
With the DVD in the DVD drive, browse the DVD using Explore, go to the folder 'Common' then folder 'win' then folder 'lang' then folder 'en' then 't2x' then 'esource' Select the video file 'T2 Part I' by right clicking on it and selecting WMP in the 'open with' tab. WMP should open and then you will be asked about the license. It should aquire the license.
I also have this file (T2 Part I) copied to my HDD. Every 6 or so days you will have to go throught inserting the DVD to get the license renewed.bits -
this is one of the very few situations where i'd suggest breaking the DRM on the file......just google on it to see how to (though last time i checked it required amongst other things, a fresh install of windows xp.....maybe that's changed by now though....)

Believe me, its not an easy task breaking the DRM restriction on the T2 DVD. You need the license as well to achieve it. Theres a huge thread on another forum just on this T2 DRM issue. Worst still, people outside Region 1 (like me) cant even watch it anymore. Proxy servers do not work any longer for T2.bits -
Tried playing the files from the HDD with WMP10 and it gets to the License Acquisition screen and says to insert DVD which is already there. Uninstalled WMP10 and installed WMP9 (supplied on DVD) and the same problem.
I saw the thread on the other forum but since I can't get the license it wouldn't work.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

WMP9 on Windows 2000, P4 2.4Ghz only - and plays it beautifully with no sweat, and didnt even knew there are problems with it until read this thread.
Perhaps its just one more reason why not to use win xp
I haven't fiddle with this crap digital restrictions, i always simply make/dump the disc image to hdd, mount the image, and it plays. Everything plays that way, any Arccos protections or not - thats the first step I always do to blow away their digital restrictions crap: make the disc image on your hdd.
My windows region is always set to 0 (i think? dont remember setting any, actually), my virtual drive region is always auto-set to the region required by the crap. -

BTW, you can play any commercial DVD, Arccos protection or not, on your PC with any DVD software player, you do not need to mount an image! Arccos only comes into play when you are trying to copy the DVD movie, which is different than copying the disc image.bits -

EDIT:
surprise surprise - now I can't play this disc at all either!
Its original player just crashes when installed and trying to use it, WMP9 can't open it either - and I have tried with the disc itself and with its image on hdd as have play it before... WTF?!
Anyone have any idea?
edit2:
The reason gotta be hiding in one of the windows updates i have installed since then, some stupid microsoft update must have somehow messed with my system's ability to play it, it doesn't recognise digital restriction mgmt (err - digital 'rigtht') or something like that, because i haven't installed any DRM-ed software or anything since i played it before. Goddamn ******* microsoft!
EDIT 3:
I've found in my windows update log some few suspicius WMP-related updates, but somehow I have hunch this one in particular might have something to do with it:
20040625 Critical Update for WMP Script Commands (KB828026)

Let me rephrase the question.
Has anyone been able to obtain the 5 day DRM license latley?
I'm thinking MicroSoft stopped sending the license for T2.

Does T2 use different DRM than the other WMV-HD releases?
I don't have T2 but I have some of the others*. Licenses are being downloaded and the DVD plays fine from the DVD drive at about 8-9 Mb/s (same as normal DVD).
Decoding is CPU intensive but 1280x720 (stereo) plays fine on my P4 2.4 GHz. w/ ATI Radeon. Best to reboot first and limit background tasks including anti-virus.
1080i and/or 5.1 audio needs closer to a 3GHz. CPU.

* including IMAX Discoverers, Shadows of Motown, Step into Liquid, Magic of Flight.
PS: According to this link, some new WMV-HD releases like Titanic, Ray and Alexander carry a new form of DRM.

Microsoft do not provide the License needed for T2 playback. Its Syncast that provides the license and the 5 day limit was chosen by Artisan.

One of the many DRM betas from 2003-2005.
I wonder if they included an "exit strategy". Probably not since the WMP-HD DVD was included as a bonus.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Its just another example how unsuspecting customers are being simply f*cked in the ass by the greedy corporations with their Digital Restrictions Management.
I wonder when we - the public - will finally have someone who'll speak for us (like MPAA is a loudmouth for the corporations)... whom am I kidding, the answer is never obviously -
on a 'hdtv forum' i read that 1440 was the best resolution they could get out of the film...supposedly

BUMP
Ok this may seem a little odd to bump such an old thread but I have recently bought the t2 extreme edition from best buy for just 4.00
I was hoping to be able to play the high def file since that would save me from having to buy the bluray. However now it seems this is just over 720p so its not "really" high def but its still more than sd.
I can't even get the interactual software to acquire a license. I am running vista 32bit home premium. I did upgrade to interactual 2.7 the most recent version of the software.
Is this hd version doa?Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
