  1. I'm currently playing Divx videos using an external hard drive connected to the USB of my Samsung HiDef TV. Is there also a similar way of playing HiDef movies recorded with my Canon Vixia HF S30 camcorder and copied onto my PC? What I'd like to do is copy my videos onto a hard drive and then have some way of playing them on the TV either through the USB or HDMI inputs.

    Thanks

depends on what formats your tv will play and if the tv is networked to the pc. a good option is a dlna blu-ray player and a dlna network storage device. players like the lg bd670 handle a bunch of differently formatted video.

otherwise converting the cam video to divx if that's all the tv can handle is an option.

In that case consider getting a wdtv media player or one of its competitors. It can play high def h264 video files. It may need some coaxing for your particular camera model. It may need to be remuxed if it doesn't like your output. But it can also play m2ts avchd files and many mov files.

Have you tried playing the files from a USB2 drive to the TV? If so a hard drive would probably work as well.

Your weak link may be the DLNA connection.
