No, you cannot set the bitrate directly. If you want that level of control you have to move to something more complex than ConvertXtoDVD. Try AVStoDVD, which does give you control over the bitrate, if you need it.

I like ConvertXtoDVD, and I use it when I need a fast conversion with reasonable quality. However I find that the current version (4) woefully undersizes it's output compared to version 3. If I want quality, I use AVStoDVD instead.

That said, there are a few tweaks to the registry that you might be able to make, but you would have to spend some time in the VSO support forums to find out what they might be.

I've found a lot of other problems with all releases of V4 I've tried (some mentioned in my Tools Section review here), that just don't seem to occur with V3. How so many conversions and burns can fail in 4, and then work fine in 3, belies any hardware issues and remains an annoying mystery.
Previously, I had found it more complex than I cared to deal with, but I'm getting ready to give AVStoDVD another try.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

altough not uptdated for a while... Favc is also worth a try, but its not as advanced as avs2dvd that has some extra stuff like motion menus, multi audio tracks etc.
I love it when a plan comes together!
