Hey I have a question to ask you all ? I'm going to start making some dvd's from digital TV shows I have on my HDD. ConvertX can handle at least 7 to 8 videos with 20- 24 minutes in it usually my project will near close to about 4.20 gigs.... I want Nero 7 nero vision to build a menu from the output of the .vob files that will be generated.... will nero try to rework the files and screw up something in the process ? mind you that nero 7 can read .vob files right ? if that does not work well with you all do you know of a good menu builder that has clip music in the BG as well showing a thumbnail clip of the video on the menu ?

Also if you look at my profile I have built my 9th computer with better speed and more reliable then my past p3 751

Personally, I wouldn't try to combine the two. However you might try an alternative route. I still think you will hit trouble when you come back to Nero though.

FAVC is similar to ConvertXtoDVD, but uses a higher quality encoder. It is a little slower than ConvertXtoDVD, but I think it is better suited for what you want to do.

Start up FAVC and add your files. Tell it you don't need a menu, and that you want to keep the working files. Let it run through and do it's thing.

Once it is complete, you should find, in the working folder (which you set on the first tab) all the video and audio assets required to make the DVD. Use these in Nero when you create your menus.

Note : make sure that in Nero you tell it not to encode compliant files. I don't know where this setting is, but it exists. You should also expect that from time to time it will ignore this setting anyway, and try to encode. You will know it is doing this if it a) tells you there is not enough space or b) takes longer than 20 minutes or so to create the disc.

You should also bear in mind that if you use one program to convert the video, and another to create the menus, you need to make sure that there is enough space left for the menus. This is especially true if you are making more than just simple static menus.

That's the one. I have been using it instead of ConvertXtoDVD most of the time now, and am mostly impressed. There are a few quirks in it still, but for the most part it is very good.

As for me - I'm doing OK. Nice to see people come back after seeing what else is out there (apparently there is more to the world than just the internet, although I'm not yet convinced that it is a fact)

If you want to use NeroVison for menus you will need a little room so that Nero doesn't have to re-encode. Nero needs some room for the nenus. I've imported ConvertX VOBs into Nero (I use ver.6) and it doesn't re-encode them as long as your project doesn't exceed Nero's 4.38GB limit. Try it and see if the results suit you.
