    i have successfully used ffmpegx to convert about 50 MPG files to MPEG4 format for use in iMovie09. the product worked flawlessly.

    now, i have on file left which is 155 MB and this one continually converts to MPEG4, but with 0 (ZERO) MB.

    I have registered the tool and paid my $15 shareware fee, btw...

    You may want to try using Handbrake or XviD4PSP to convert the MPG to MP4.

    The MPEG file might be damaged, run it through VDubMod and see if it finds any problem.
