  1. I have managed to extract a movie with Mac the Ripper despite its arrcoss protection and it is now viewable on my hard drive. Attempts to burn the movie fail because Toast tells me that the number of gigabytes is approximately 53, many times the capacity of a dual layer dvd. Is there a way around this difficulty? If there is please use the simplest language because I am generally computer illiterate and this is my first sortie into seeking help via the internet.

Which version of MacTheRipper? Some of the more recent DVD protections can cause software to think the DVD is many times larger than it actually is, such as you're seeing.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  4. Hi. Have you looked inside the folder that MacTheRipper 'delivered'? You may see that the 53 GBs is made up of the same files being listed 5 or 6 times. What you ultimately want in a folder that Toast will burn to a normal DVD(or DL), is one AUDIO_TS folder, and one VIDEO_TS folder. It's the VIDEO_TS folder that will currently have all the repeated listings ripped into it.

If this is the case, remove and put aside (for the moment) all the repetitions so that the resulting VIDEO_TS folder's contents looks like this:

    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB
    etc

I write "etc" because a DVD-DL may have 7-8 VOB files.

OK, now try and play that folder on your Mac with the inbuilt program DVD Player. If it plays, those files are the 'live' ones. The other are bogus files created by the ARCCOS process to falsely inflate the 'size' of the film to 53 GBs (or whatever).

Now, it is possible that the 'live' files are the second or third listing, so if DVD Player won't play the first stripped-back VIDEO_TS folder, put in it VOB files that display

    VTS_02_1.VOB, and so on

    or

    VTS_03_1.VOB, and so on,

    also ensuring that these files:

    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_02_0.BUP
    VTS_02_0.IFO

    or

    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_03_0.BUP
    VTS_03_0.IFO

also have the right identifying number for the listing - 02, 03, 04, whatever, in the pattern displayed above.

Then try playing each separated listing's folder with DVD Player until you identify which is the true file listing (...01, ...02, ...03, etc) amongst the repetitions - you are tracking down which one of the listings has actual content in it.

Then, burn the 'real' files to disc as you would normally do in Toast - that is, in a VIDEO_TS folder along with an AUDIO_TS folder.

    Good luck, Michael
