I have a copy of Ulead VideoStudio 7. Apparently VideoStudio is now owned by Corel. I'm looking at Corel VideoStudio Pro X2
A couple of things I don't like about VS7 is that it automatically adds transitions between clips which I find annoying, and also among all its transitions and effects, it doesn't have a simple "Fade to/from black" transition, which is the one I use most in Pinnacle Studio 9. Also, which the interface isn't bad on VS7, it isn't as intuitive as Pinnacle.
Does anyone know if these issues from VS7 are still existent in VS Pro X2? How's it compare to Vegas?
Thanks

? ... I had ulead videostudio 7, 8, and 9 and all had fade to black.
As far as I recall version 7 had this transition omitted in "SE" editions, normally bundled with hardware and did release the fx transition package but as time has moved on ulead have cleared the deck of older and no longer supported products which have been taken over by corel.
Funny thing is I bought x2 and still haven't got round to installing it but there shouldn't be any of the original problems .
X2 and vegas ... both have there place but vegas is a pig when it comes to accepting xvid compressed video's ... but nothing one cannot fix, lol. -
face it...these are goofy entry level editors
ulead VS=transitions>FX>fade to black
I remember looking for something basic once and it took me 20 minutes to find.
I'd also suggest testing a free demo of X2 & Vegas before doing anything rash.
Pinnacle is reguarded as crap around here...but highly recommended in magazines that run their ads -
Of the entry level NLE's i'd suggest taking a loot at Premiere Elements (if your looking at changing).
Pinnacle is indeed regarded as 'crap' and its for good reason, especially the newer versions. -
VS Pro X2 is very easy to use. You can easily turn off automatic transitions under "preferences." Fade to black and a ton of others are easily available. Try reading the manual, or go to thre Corel User's forum.

I just got this today, and was looking for it myself. I found it, thanks to pepegot1's link. If you look at the transitions ("effects") that merely show up on default, fade won't be there. However, you just click on the drop-down menu above the animated examples (I think by default it says "Film") then you can pick from several categories, of which the few you are initially shown are in just one. Fade-to-black is in the "F/X" category, as well as Crossfade, which is what I was actually looking for. Good to know.
