  1. Hello.

I wasn't sure where I should put my question, so I put it here. I wanted to know if you are able to encode a video that was taken with a HD camcorder then convert it to a DVD format so that it can be played on a regular DVD player? Or do I need player specifically designed for HD video playback or a HD TV?

The reason for my question is that my camcorder is starting to get crazy on me and I'm thinking of buying a HD camcorder. But I don't have a HD tv or HD dvd player, just a regular TV and a DVD player. Can this be done without having to buy all these new EXPENSIVE hardwares? Thank you.

You can convert the footage to standard DVD resolution using an app like ConvertxtoDVD. That's probably the easiest to use app for this purpose, plus it'll burn the DVD for you. Or if you want a free app which isn't quite as automated, AVStoDVD is very good.

But, you'll probably want to edit your footage before you send it off to be burned to DVD. In that case, you'll need to have a fast computer. If you have anything less than a Core2 Duo, fuggetaboutit.

  3. Thank you for your reply. And as for a faster computer, yes, I did buy a new one with Intel's Core i3 530 with 4 gig ram after my other one gave up which I used for about 6 years. I think it's fast enough, right? Also, I have Procoder 3 to encode to other formats. Will this work to encode it so that it can be played on a regular DVD player?

Cool. Good stuff. I'm not 100% certain about Procoder (worked on it a lot around 4 years ago). It'll most likely work just fine.
