  1. Hi,
I'm in need of some advice on which capture card to go for. Currently in my price range there's the ATI TV Wonder VE and the Hauppauge WinTV Go which is more expensive. I had originally decided on the ATI card until i discovered that the Hauppauge card can record at a higher resolution. Is that the only notable difference between the two cards?

My main usage will be recording my VHS tapes to something like a DivX avi and also to connect my video camera to it. My computer is a Duron 900 overclocked to 1.12 Ghz with a Geforce 2 MX and Soundblaster Audigy card. Is it likely i'll be able to record directly to a DivX file or would i need a faster computer?

    Any feedback is appreciated. :-)

  2. I forgot to add the Pinnacle Studio PCTV 'Rave' PCI to the list too. Are there any opinions on that card?

  3. If you get the generic driver for BT conexant chips from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/btwincap/

The VE will do 640x480. I have it. Works greeaaaaat! (nice n cheap too.)

  4. Thanks for the advice, i decided to go for the Hauppauge WinTV Go card though. Does anyone have this card, should i be using the drivers on their website or are there others drivers which would give me better results?

    Thanks,

I have a WinTV Go and use the latest driver from the Hauppauge website.
I find it performs well. I have difficulty capturing higher than 352x288 in AVI format (I only have a Duron 750mhz) but can capture to MPEG2 at 480x576 using Ulead Media Studio Pro with usually only a couple of dropped frames per hour.

  6. if I was you you might want to get the Dazzle 2 it has a better picture then WinTV. I also have the AIW it works very good with windows 2000 and 7.5 capture software and can capture DIVX files and windows media files now

Will the driver work on TV Wonder PCI as well ?
You said it will do 640x480. Are you talking MPEG-1 ???

    Because I can capture in 640x480 MPEG-1 using WinDVR1.8

Remember that you have a 1394 Firewire port on your Sound Blaster Audigy sound card.

Get a used digital video camcorder.
