  3. yap,that waht I did in my experiment,I capture,I save a avi format,then (I opened that file with panasonic mpeg encoder,I save in mpeg2 format,then I open that file with Nero and I burned the cd,like 20 second and then I played in dvd,work fine,after that duhhhhh!!!!! I red my dvd manual and there is!!! support dvd,vcd,mpeg2,etc,etc,, my dvd brandname is
    Pioneer DV-525

    yes the 711 plays vcd, as well as svcd, though with svcd to hear sound you need to set the audio under setup to pcm or something like that. Anyway, I had a 711 for about a year plus and I got it because ot would play vcd.

    I will say that the 711 seems a bit finicky on the xvcd stuff. Though on straight forward vcd and svcd plays perfectly.
