  1. hey guys i have a networked media tank, and i have the dvds of lord of the rings EE, whats the best way to merge the 2 discs into one file, i want a very high quality, or no compression. the server software i have does not recognize iso files.

with no compression on dvd rips will it take much less time to do it.
    thanks

  2. I remember when I had the same problem with my versions of LOTR EE.

I originally tried to use MakeMKV to create an MKV from each disc and then join them, but MakeMKV didn't allow me to rip the forced subs (when they are speaking in Elvish), only the selectable ones (hard of hearing, etc), so I had to do it the "long" way.

Joining the files wasn't much of a problem, I ripped the MPG file straight from the DVD using Magic DVD Ripper (you could also use DVDdecrypter and then mux the streams using ImagoMPEG-Muxer). Then I joined the two MPG files using Tmpgenc Mpeg Editor.

Handling the forced subs wasn't too hard, I had to rip those using Subrip (saved to SRT), then I joined them using Aegisub. I then put everything in a (huge!) MKV container to use with my WDTV and it worked perfectly.

A "rip" of a DVD is an exact copy with no compression.

assemble the VOB's in Womble MPEG Video Wizard..do any cutting you need to to get rid of the credits/opening title and then stream copy..you'll have a single MPG file with no quality loss.
