    i have a video file im trying to get to work on my western digital media play... it was mkv but i need it to be an avi format that it will be anle to read and play it, vert frustrating. IT friend said to just change the .mkv to .avi and it will be right but its still not working.
    anything free that will convert it quick will be great. tried quick media converter but no good.

    Doesn't it support mkv?

    You can try reconvert to mp4 without reconversion with gotsent. Or if you really want avi use mkvtoavi!

    Yeah, I thought the WD players recognized and played MKV videos.

    Changing the file extension might work - but only on a computer, which would be able to guess from the contents that it's an MKV and play it properly, A standalone device like a DivX/Xvid-compatible DVD player would most likely not know what to do with such a renamed file. It's like renaming a .vob file from a DVD to .mpg - some players might recognize it/happily play it, but it's not really a good idea.
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
