    Do you know if you can fix a USB cable that has been cut off at one end by splicing a new one on ?. I can't easilt just replace the full cab as its in the wall of the house and hard to get out ?

    All types of connectors are available with solder pin connections. Some are wall mount.

    You can buy USB cables with any combination of connectors.

    Total length of USB is limited to ~5m. You may need a repeater.

  5. Male "A" connectors are used on cables that go to a PC, female should be used on wall receptacles. "B" connectors are used on peripherals.

    Its simple as remembering female = receptacle / socket and male = plug

    There's type A "13.1(W) x 5.5(H) mm" and type B "5.6(W) x 3.2(H)mm"

    Parts :

    1 : A wall bracket with an A type interface receptacle (makes it appear neater)
    2 : Usb cable with A type plugs on each end
