I do not have a firewire port on my laptop so i bought a cable to adapt from usb 2 to firewire. how can i get this to work? my capture program vegas 8 does not see my camera. can't find drivers for firewire.

Can you get your money back? I hope so. The cable you describe converts the DV to MPEG1. The quality is terrible and the camcorder is invisible to Windows - by that I mean DV-based software can't see it. According to the blurb for the cable, you have to use their proprietary software to capture and edit. Their advertising seems to be deliberately confusing/misleading.
It is actually cheaper to buy a PCMCIA FireWire card (that slots into the side of your laptop) than the cable.John Miller
