So I picked up this jvc dr-mv80b player on sale. It says it plays Divx but when ever I try to play a movie on it. It says it wants to format the disk. Any thoughts?

Well, you might want to check your video to ensure that it's indeed a Divx video, using MediaInfo, and not an Xvid masquerading as a Divx. There is an application called abcAVI Tag Editor that will allow you to change the FourCC ID to Divx if you find that your video is other than true Divx.
YMMV. Good luck. -
If it's a relatively new/recent player, it should have no problems playing Xvid (with the possible exception of the encoding characteristics mentioned in this thread) or DivX-encoded AVI videos, from a data disc. How did you write your data disc, and what media did you use?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
