  1. Hi All,
Question: in all your experiences, have you found that when converting a DivX/AVI into VCD using TMPEenc and then split it in 2 parts, the soung goes out of synch?

Can this be a result of chopping the file, Divx itself is out of synch? Should I chop the Divx and then convert the two bits into VCD?

If anybody has experience in downloading movies in DivX format and then converting them in VCD format (2 CDs) please let me know!!
    Thanks

  2. I've done this quite a few times and my experience is that when I cut the DivX in half using VirtualDub the second half would be out of sync after converting it to VCD.
So instead I convert the whole DivX to VCD using TMPGEnc. Then I skim through the file using Media Player and see if everything is in sync. When it appears to be OK I go into TMPGEnc and use the Merge/Cut option under MPEG Tools. Select "MPEG1 Video-CD" then open your MPEG using the add button, select it and use edit.
When you use the slider or enter a time position manually, ALWAYS press the { or } buttons afterwards before pressing OK. I believe TMPGEnc will select the previous whole frame then.
When you've done this enter the output filename and repeat the steps for the second half.

This way I've cut about 25 films and it worked every single time, no problems.

Apparently some DivX films can't be converted properly to VCD is my experience. Fortunately most films do. A reason for this can be corrupt frames, but some films appear to be intact but wont convert properly. I have three films that can't be converted even when I use the exact same settings of previous succesful conversions. The DivX's play fine though. Beats me.
    Regards,

  3. Thanks for that willem....
Thats what I did as well> all DivX to VCD with TPM thing and then split... I will take a closer look at the original source to see if the audio is out of synch there as well. that would give me a clue of where to start fixing...
I got a few things to try out fixing the error. Will report back if successful

    Hi

I think the problem is cause by not cutting at a "keyframe" I use Vdub to cut them in half, but if they are cut just any place the audio can go out, if for any reason they are rejoined. So in Vdub you go to the half way mark, then move back to the nearest keyframe, the second half would also contain a few seconds of the first parts (End).

Anyway, probable nothing, but thought I would mention the keyframes.

  5. Thanks for this.
I cut the VCD in order to burn on 2 CDs, I am not joining them. I checked the original source and (DivX) and seems to be out of synch as well, so I guess there's my answer!! Yesterday I converted another DivX to VCD and I cut it in 2 parts/ Checked both of them quickly and they look OK as in the orginal DivX, so, cross my fingers, it should play fine....
The one movie which is out of synch I will try and fix the source first with Vdub or something. Got an article on how to do that and may take a bit of time and efforts but it looks pretty straight forward..

Will report back with the outcome (unless, I throw the damn PC out of the window!!)
