  1. OK, I'm an absolute newbie here and just don't know where to start.

I downloaded movies using bit torrent. They come in an avi format.

Based on different friends' advice, i use winavi to convert to dvd format and then burned a dvd using nero. It kind of works, but i get thse VOB files. What I am looking for, is a way to burn that I just put the dvd in my dvd player and it plays, no frame selection. When i toss that burnt dvd in the dvd player, i see the folder and the files in the directory and i have to select a file. Then it will play.

Is there a PROPER way to do this using free programs? I will even consider buying a program to do this, but
I welcome ALL help, just keep in mind that i am relatively new at this...thanks

What you want is done during the authoring stage of the program. It's called 'auto start playback' and other terms. As soon as the DVD is inserted, it plays the main movie.

WinAVI is not too popular around here, so I don't know if it has that feature available. There are lots of other converters that work better. ConvertXToDVD is one of the better pay ones. But there is FAVC, DVDFlick and others in our 'Tools' section that are freeware: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/all-in-one-dvd-converters

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. Sorry,

As I said, I'm really new at this. It probably took me 15 min to figure out how to reply.

I'll conform to the rules, to the best of my knowledge, and if i screw up, it's because I don't know any better.

Thank you, that is what I'm looking for, specific programs and knowledge to do all of this. That way, i can delete hard to use programs off of my computer.

Thanks, i feel like i'm getting smarter by the hour, now!

ConvertXtoDVD to create a Video_TS folder, Imgburn to burn it.

By far the simplest method for a newbie.
