I am trying to encode video to play on my Lyra X2400 with Avidemux.

I have tried many settings, but they end up with a lot of gobbly gook on the screen.

The Lyra came with Blaze Video Magic 2.0, but I'd like to use Avidemux if I can.

I am posting a video that was encoded on Blaze Video Magic that works on the Lyra so that hopefully someone can look at it and tell me what settings I need to use on Avidemux.

So far I have used the following settings in Avidemux, and they haven't worked:

    video:
    MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid4)
    constant bitrate 1600 kb/s
Changed framerate to 25 fps in filters
added MPlayer resize filter to 640X480

    Audio: MP2 (lavc)
    64 bitrate

    Format:AVI

I uploaded an avi file (10.avi) that will play on my Lyra. Here is some info I have got off a file that was encoded with Blaze Video that works in the Lyra X2400:

    Format : AVI

Are you using 22Khz audio in avidemux also(Audio->Filters->Resampling)?

And disable bvhq, bvop, qpel, gmc under the video->Configure settings in avidemux.

I can only see BVHQ and GMC under the Motion tab in the Configuration settings. I will turn those off and change the Audio to 22Khz.

I did not have a problem with the audio, the audio works fine before. I will change it to 22Khz anyway.

The problem I was experiencing was colored blocks. Whenever a new scene would appear, the picture would refresh for a half a second and be somewhat clear, then it would quickly fill with random blocks of color.

I could not find bvop, qpel in the configure settings.

I was wondering if there was a video cheat sheet somewhere that tells newbies like myself what all these settings mean?

    Thank you for your reply.

  4. If you open your video that works in gspot, you will see that it has no b-frames. The playback issues you are experiencing is likely b-frame decoder lag

In avidemux, turn off b-frames (set to "0") and uncheckmark BVHQ

Here are some links to explain xvid options (they are for xvid using vdub (vfw version)), but the options are basically the same for any version of xvid

Thanks for the screenshot and links for info.

Ok, I disabled B frames (set to "0") and unchecked BVHQ.

    It still didn't work.

I captured what it looks like on with a camcorder recording my Lyra:

    Perhaps the codec is incompatible?

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried these settings and it still didn't work. Also, when I changed the audio to 22Khz, Avidemux would error out and close.

See the new video file I posted of what the Lyra looks like when it tries to play these files, perhaps it will give more clue for you?

  7. The device might not like the profile level (it might need simple@L1). You can't change this in avidemux to my knowledge, but you can in xvid vfw (e.g. using vdub)

Please try this and see if it plays (no audio)

    Thanks for the attempt.

It still didn't work with your test.avi file posted.

  9. Sorry, I'm an idiot, I forgot to change the b-frames. I also resized to 640x432 (instead of 640x480), and changed fps to 25 (similar to the test file that works)

Try this. The only difference in gspot is your video begins with I frames

The 2nd sample was done with avidemux (includes audio), but the difference was openDML files was selected (tools=>preferences=>output tab=>create OpenDML files), but the profile level is Simple@L3 (can't change this in avidemux), and it does begin with I frame

I really appreciate your attempts at this.

I just tried your most recent files test1.avi and the avidemux opendml.avi files, they both still don't work.

I know this is frustrating. If there is anything else I can do or post, please let me know.

  11. OK here's another go:, the keyframe interval adjusted to 12 (similar to the other video that works) using vdub (no audio)

    And avidemux, Simple@Level3 (with audio)

These looked better (test2.avi, avidemux2.avi) there were less blocks in the screen, but there were still blocks.

Perhaps you are on the right trail?

    Thank you

I can't get the Blaze Video Magic 2.0 to run on my Windows XP anymore. It says something about looking for WMP 9.0 or later, which is ironic since my computer now has version 11. I sure wish I could just use a different tool to encode my videos for this Lyra device. If anyone has one of these or would like to try another stab at figuring out how to encode a video that will play on it, I'd sure appreciate it.
The Lyra is capable of hardware encoding a video. I could encode a video with the Lyra itself, I'm not sure if this would be helpful since I have already posted an .avi which works on the Lyra.
I thought that I could simply use a video information program to read the details of the video, then plug those parameters into an encoder, and make a video that will play in the Lyra.
I'm not stuck on using Avidemux, I'll use anything that works at this point.
