    Hi all,

AVI to DVD can be converted with Nero ..but.. it is a painfully slow (1.5 to 2 hrs). Looking for an application that can make the conversion faster. All responses appreciated.

    Hi Freebird,

Thank you for taking time out to respond, appreciated. That said, I was hoping to find a free application.

    Cheers from downunder.

Okay. You might look at dvdflick then. AFAIK it uses ffmpeg like convertx and is also fairly fast.

It does appear I spoke out too soon.

The first avi I converted with winFF was great. Then I repeated the process with 3 other avi files unsuccessfully, all 3 stopped about 3/4 of the way. Up to that point everything was fine before blank screen.

Well try DVDflick as suggested then..BTW, you do know ConvertxtoDVD is trialware right?..It may just be quick enough for you, to purchase....There's also the very good(but slower) ,and free AVStoDVD or FAVC..
Do your AVI source files play ok, before converting?..

ConvertXtoDVD is worth the dough if you want to save time. The resulting DVDs play properly as well.

convertxtodvd is the only good choice here.
Or a DVD player that plays XVID.

Free predecessor - DivXtoDVD . Not as fast as the commercial ConvertXtoDVD, however.

If you let your PC work at night while you sleep, it doesn't matter how long it takes to convert. Two hours? One hour? It's all the same to you. Why oh why does nobody seem to understand that?

I guess he likes to watch it encode. Of course, if he upgraded his computer then he'd only have to watch it for an hour or less.
