What would make the xbox 360 play some mp4s and not all? I have two different files on my external hard drive, and the xbox will play one but not the other. The only thing I can think of is using an app(?) to see what is different in the two, conversion wise. Has anyone ran into this issue before? Thanks!

Incompatible codecs. Analyze the files with mediainfo and get back with us.

  3. Well, gosh golly gee whiz, you might take a look at the possible encoding parameters for an mp4 file, and then take a look at the specific requirements for an mp4 that the xbox can play, and you will notice that the xbox set is a much more narrowly defined group.

It is NOT an mp4 player, it is a player that can play Some mp4 but Not others. Very much like a lot of DVD players that can play Xvid or Divx, IF they are encoded with specific settings. Also similar to the MPG files a dvd player can handle, it is by no means ALL mpg files.

You apparently have one mp4 in the SOME group and one mp4 in the OTHER group.

Exactly. The most common thing I run into is an incompatible audio track. If it's not a 2-channel .aac track it's not gonna play on an Xbox 360.
