Hey, I have a 804 MB mpeg svcd and i dont think they make a 800MB CDR , so iwas wondering if there was a way to trick the burner into letting the CD-R hold more data. Thanks alot.

Maybe, if your burner and media support over burning it might work. Give it a try is all I can say.

yes you can, it is not an over burn it is intented that way. cd hold data and audio/video differntly depending on the way it is burned. tat is why you choose vcd or svcd instead of data.

If you use CDRW, I managed to fit an 806MB VCD mpg 1 to a 700MB 80min CDRW.

You don't need to overburn. Use Nero and choose SuperVCD. The svcd mpg. can be up to about 835 MB without overburning on a 700MB (80min)CD.

Birgirt is right. You should be able to burn without a hitch.

Use Nero to do it (I had the same question too). Just make a new SVCD compilation and drag over your 804mb big SVCD file. Let Nero analize it a bit, and it should be able to burn it on an 80 minute cdr. Remember that some movies are burnt by length rather than by size

Files are never burnt by time rather than size, it just appears that way with vcds since they use cbr and thus yeild 10Mb's for every 1 min. Also, you certainly cannot fit 835MB on an 80 cdr without overburning.
If burnt in mode 2, which is what vcds and svcds use, you can fit a little more than 800 MB's on an 80 min cdr. How much more depends on the particular brand.
birgert I don't doubt that you have fit up to 835MB onto a single cdr. Cdrs typically have the last 4 secs reserved for the TOC which amounts to about 40 MB's worth of space. Overburning is the process of burning through this reserved space and using it for additional data.
As others have stated, 804 MB's is cutting it close and may require overburning. Don't forget that Svcds can often have as much as 10MB's of additional overhead added to the size of the mpeg. All you can do is just try and see if it will fit. -
I want to burn a 719 MB avi-file, but when I use Nero' VCD-funktion, the indicator goes up high in the red area. So how you I make Nero want to burn that 719 MB AVI-file then?

An avi file cannot be burnt in mode 2 so you are limited to only 700MB's for an 80 min cdr.
Mode 2 does not use conventional error checking so the space reserved for error checking can be used for additional data. That is why mode 2 burning can fit around 800 MB's.
Your best bet would probably be to edit that avi file and either re-encode it in a lower bitrate or to cut out some of the movie. -
Infinity now make a 99 min cdr you need to check with them on the compatability of your burner though.

What I'm having trouble understanding is this:
Where do you determine the ACTUAL file size?
If you select the file in Windows Explorer, the status bar says 804MB (for example).
Or if you look at the file properties for that same file, it will say something like 793MB (838,464,716 bytes)
Is there an accurate way of determining whether or not a file will fit on a blank CDR? -
Hey hockeypro - how did you determine that your file is 804MB?
Where did you get that information (see above post)? -
yeah i had the same problem when i was trying to burn some Smallville Svcds but i now the problem was my burner it did not suppoty DAO. i just got a new yamaha burner and i was done in great time
