  1. For some reason, I am having trouble ripping JFK Director's Cut (it has the audio commentary option on it).

When I rip it with SmartRipper, convert it with DVD2AVI, and then try converting it with TMPGEnc, I get an error from TMPGEnc:

"An error occurred when audio was decoded"

I am not sure if the problem is being created during the ripping stage, or during the DVD2AVI stage, but I'm ripping it the same way I have ripped many other DVD's with success (using the settings in Sefy's guide). However, none of the other DVD's have had audio commentary on them.

In any respect, when I tried converting with TMPGEnc with the files that I created with DVD2AVI using all 8 VOB files, I get that error. However, when I only used the first 7 VOB files (didn't use vts_01_8.vob), I didn't get the error and it started converting in TMGPEnc. But to avoid wasting my time, I stopped the conversion process, and played the WAV file in WinAmp to see how far the audio went, and it went almost to the end, but not quite, which means that the converted movie would have only gone to that point.

But, when I played the WAV file that was made using all 8 VOB files, the audio went to the end, but then kept going and played about 2-3 minutes of the movie again, even though the length of the WAV file was the same length as the length of the movie. Very strange.

I then compared the size of the vob files on the DVD to the ones on my hard drive, and 2 out of the 8 did not match:

    vts_01_1.vob Size on DVD = 1,048,574KB Size on HD = 1,019,546KB
    vts_01_8.vob Size on DVD = 862,382KB Size on HD = 836,494KB

Is there a size limit for ripping with SmartRipper (again, I have the settings set at the ones specified by Sefy's guide)? Is there a size limit for the files that TMPGEnc can deal with?

Another thing that raised a flag was that the very first VOB file was not even ripped, vts_01_0.vob. However since its file size was only around 40,000KB, I guess it might be the menu that plays in the beginning.

    Anyone have any advice?

  2. Regarding the ripping, you might want to try other ripping tools to see if the same results happen in the size of the VOB files, regarding the Audio problem you can try using Smart Ripper to create both the D2V and the WAV files for you (latest 2.41 can do this).
