  1. I use DVDFab to capture DVD. However I am confused by the options presented for sound tracks and subtitles.

I normally just point and shoot at the "Generic" option to get my AVI.

What is a foolproof noob way to get a commentary track for research purposes?

Just un-check the languages that you don't want.

  3. What is the toe tag for RIP?

Ok for languages but do commentary tracks behave the same way. I cannot recall how they are presented until I retrieve the source material again.

Yes...many times "commentary" tracks are not clearly labeled. I've never gotten sound when previewing in DVDFab.....not sure if it has it. I would then rip "movie only" with DVDFab....then open that rip in DVDShrink where I KNOW I can get sound during the preview and rip again leaving you with only the track you want....then compress to your AVI.
I can't believe there is no sound in DVDFab's preview....hopefully I'm doing something wrong and someone will come along and correct me and make life easier.

  5. Well I've used Dvd Shrink way back when and barely remember how it works. Maybe I need a refresher. To resize avi I use Auto Gordian Knot.

What I've never been able to comprehend is stuff like Avi Synth in native mode which gives huge files. And yes I've printed out the long manuals. It's just not something I can concentrate on full time.

What is the latest on stripping off unwanted copy protection? If this question taboo just say so. In one of those progs it shows what sort of CP is used. I have gotten some rips that have hung lately.

DVDFab - DVDFabdecrypter and AnyDVD are the latest and greatest decrypters.. Once you get past the decryptions.....DVDShrink still works on most stuff these two put out.

  7. Ok. I have the 2006 version of DVD Decrypter which was the last one. And saved to cd for safekeeping.
I was used to working with those together but over time slipped into using DVDFab and AGK.

thanks for answering. I'll be on this job soon but not immediately.

Previewing a title does have accompanying audio.

  9. The commentary track is clearly marked in the source DVD. But my first attempt failed. I spot checked all the way through the piece and directors comment.

I am redoing it just to see if I made a mistake. After that I may go to DVD Decrypter as suggested.

Is there anything about selected "custom" or one of the numerous options rather than selecting generic which I do because it always works and there are no options to work with aside from checking desired audio and video. This piece has two featured content elements. I was able to select the right one but not the director commentary.

  10. At least I got a different error: the error box that says no media present or whatevs after the copy completes. I just quit the operation since I didn't know what was going on. There's not that many things to do in DVDFab so when something goes haywire, what's to do? The media present in the DVDR was the source disk. The file should have simply copied to AVI and done.

  11. In looking up guides for program use of DVD Fab Decrypter I ran across disabling AutoRun using RegEdit. Could this be the cause of my failure to get the appropriate audio from DVD Fab.

Note: I did not have enough disk space to use DVD Decrypter properly. It bailed on the amount of disk space available.

To save me some needle in the haystack time, which is the best source of guides today? I normally go to Afterdawn for guides.

Nobody told you to use DVDDecrypter.
You are not listening and you are not providing ANY information on exactly what you are doing.

    Goodbye.
