    Ive just installed VirtualDub but when I try to open Avi file it says it needs Video for Windows compatable codec to decompress video.Could someone tell me how I do this.Many thanks

  2. You need a VFW decompression codec for the type of video used in the AVI file. Use GSpot or MediaInfo to see what codec is required.

    Whatever codec it is, it is likely that ffdshow provides it, so install ffdshow if you haven't already.
    Then use its VfW video decoder configuration to 'switch on' the codec required.

    The Output Video is not the same ratio as the input video.Any further help apprecciated
