    Hi

OK, I have my dv file from a VHS tape.

Would it be best to burn it straight to DVD via Toast or convert to an AVI file and save on a data disc ?

I only ask because I will be doing VHS conversions for other people and was wondering the best way to go for them ?

    Ta....

best to keep it in the format it's in now and burn to data disc...
    avi is just a container...
    lastly, to DVD (mpeg2)

but if you're converting for others and not interested in archiving, I'd just convert to DVD (mpeg2) because your clients are probably expecting to pop the disc (with menus possibly) into any DVD player

DV is way too large for disc storage (about 15GB/hour). You'll have to compress it somehow.

2 hrs of MPEG2 for a DVD movie. As zoobie says, that's probably how most people will use the footage you convert for them.

However, H264 will permit longer times per disc but these discs won't play on anything but your computer (or, put on a hard drive, connected to something like the WD TV Media Player or an AppleTV).

Yeah, If you want a really simple method, just drop the file into Burn for OSX - it will conver the file, author the DVD and burn it for you.
