  1. Hi Guys,

Just a quick question - I've had a look online for the answer but I couldn't find any replies, either that or I was searching for the wrong things. Anyhow.

I want to take my new HD video camera (Sony HDR-XR105) with me on my next holiday, I intend to take it in my carry on luggage however will the x-ray machines / metal detectors at the airport security checks cause the camera (or its internal hard drive) any damage? My last camera had mini-DV tapes and the end of our vacation footage was unusable, it could have been the tape however. I know this may sound like a stupid question but it's something my partner brought up and I didn't have an answer for!

Any advice is welcome and thanks in advance!

Well in almost all cases the answer is no as the frequency is not high enough but if you don't want to place it at risk you can have it manually inspected rather than being scanned.

I think this is a throwback to when X-ray machines at airports were introduced, and people got concerned about them fogging highly sensitive chemical film.
It seems to have stuck in the mind of the general public that
    X-ray + film = BAD. therefore X-ray + camera = BAD, therefore X-rays are bad for cameras.

  4. Thanks for the replies guys. I was sure there was no "threat" to my video camera, but as you have said it's one of those things that gets stuck in the general publics head!
