  1. Is there any way to know the number of segments a title will be divided into for encoding in DVD Rebuilder? I like that it re-encodes this way but I would like to know how it decides to divide up the videos. It creates one d2v file but it encodes each large title as several m2v files which it stitches back together in the rebuilding phase (it seems to process stills separately - stills in galleries that are actually several static menu pages rather than a video file).

I believe it does it by chapter, which allows for better quality encoding and allows for the chapters to be put back exactly where they were knowing that all the I frames will line up.

  3. I hadn't thought of that.

If this is too much of a tangent, I'll move it to another thread but: HCEncGUI allows you to set chapter marks or import them. Does it then encode the video in segments?

No, it just makes sure that the frames designated as chapter points are I-frames.

  5. Oh, thanks. I always found it annoying that the DVD Authoring programs would move my chapter points to the nearest I-frame. I'll try setting them before encoding.
