My initial suggestion would be to uninstall/reinstall the PC Suite program (make sure to look through your program files folder and remove/backup any folders that pertain to Nokia or PC Suite) and follow the steps of installation specifically.

The other thing to keep in mind when reinstalling, is to keep your phone/pda/smartphone disconnected from the PC until setup is completed. Close, the re-open PC Suite, and the connect your device (this is from personal experience and walking people through these steps more times than I can count.)

If you continue having problems with connection, call Nokia technical support, you should be able to find a knowledgeable support rep who will know, and be willing to help you get connected.

After the installation I have to restart and then I have the wizard for the cable connection. Should I close it first and re-open and then connect the phone?

Nope, if you're restarting, let the wizard open up and only connect when the wizards says to do so. (Make sure to read the directions so you're not connecting when it's telling you that you need to connect on the next screen.)

I tried to follow the steps, but I still get the error message but at least the phone is connected.

Does your phone show up as drive G: ?

This might be one of those times when the Phone manufacturer only wants you to interact with your phone via their software.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I had a similar problem with my phone, but it turned out the connection on the phone to the USB cable was bad. I had to jiggle it just right and then not touch it at all or it would lose the connection.

I am starting to think that it is a common problems with all cables, because I've owned 4 nokia phones before and all of them had the same issue.
