Hello all,
I have an nvidia geforce 8800 gt card with 2 DVI outputs (latest drivers)
I connected one of them to a 32" LCD with a DVI to HDMI cable, but i wasn't able to find a proper resolution that will display my desktop properly.
I tried many different options and combinations but nothing is proper.
Can someone try and help me with the problem?
thanks,
Eithan.

What is the LCD resolution? is it a LCD TV or monitor?
And try google for nvidia pixel mapping and you will probably get some hints. -
It's an LG 32" LCD TV.
Just to get some knowledge, even if i find out the native res of the TV, how will I set it?
is nvidia control panel the way to do it?
or there are other tools?
excuse me for my newbeness, trying to learn the subject.
thanks

any clue?

A 32 inch LCD most likely has a native resolution of 1366x768. Check the manual or some online resources. Most HDTVs support only a limited number of resolutions via DVI/HDMI -- usually the standard video resolutions of 1280x720 and 1920x1080.
What do you mean by not getting a "proper" display? Was small text fuzzy? Were the edges of the desktop cut off? You may have to revert to VGA to correct these problems. You will likely get a better picture from VGA at the TV's native resolution than via DVI/HDMI. The biggest exception would be a 1080p HDTV with a pixel-for-pixel mode. -
jagabo,
the edges of the screen are cut off on any resolution, except
as i stated before, 800x600 which fits perfectly. but only in this case the colors change on the TV, not on the monitor. its strange. any idea why?
thanks again -

thanks for the quick answers,
my model is LG 32LC43.
is there any software way to deal with overscan, the colors look terrible.

I'm having difficulty finding any specs for this TV other than is has a 1366x768 native display resolution.
You should have a manual with it and it should have a section on PC connection (if supported) and resolutions accepted.
If it has a PC (VGA port) then you will find better luck interfacing at 1280x768 or 1366x768 from a computer.
Overscan addresses your issues with the edges being cropped but has nothing to do with "colors".
I suggest you use the VGA port if the TV has one.
Overscan is dealt with using desktop zoom modes in your display card software. These modes will lower image detail but will make the picture edges visible.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

And note that the fact that the TV supports 800x600 via VGA doesn't mean it supports that resolution via DVI/HDMI.
