i got a question that i hope someone can answer for me. i have been using dvdfab (always current version) to rip my dvd to my hard drive then i use dvd shrink 3.2 to reauthor my dvd and use that to burn to verbatim dvd - r disc. i am using nero 8 as my burning software. only for a long time now i can't make a dvd just using dvdfab then dvd shrink to reauthor and burn. all i get are dvd's that won't play in my dvd players anymore they will only be recognized and play in my laptop drive only. to make a dvd that will play in my dvd players i have found i have to do a extra step now i use dvdfab first then dvd shrink to reauthor to a empty folder with no dvd-r in the rw drive, when dvd shrink is done backing that movie up i have to use the backup folder instead of the directly ripped movie folder which will be a 4.37gb movie then use nero itself using nero express selecting dvd files to burn and burn that way. i never had to do it this way and it takes longer to rip and burn my dvd's now. any idea why now i have to do it this way? i have been doing it the regular way for a couple a years now and never had a problem before, i kind of wonder if it is in nero itself since i think since i used to use nero 7 and never had a problem till i upgraded to nero 8. anyone heard of this happening or anything like it? thank you for your help.

Use IMGBURN to burn your dvd media. NERO is crappy to use end of story. When using DVD SHRINK you can output to a ISO image then just pull up IMGBURN to burn that ISO file that you created with DVD SHRINK. One more step isn't that difficult.

You don't need an ISO to burn with Imgburn. It has been quite capable of burning Video_TS folders (in fact pretty much any file) for quite some time.

That said, I second the suggestion for Imgburn.

Glad you got it sorted, but why put on some ancient version of Nero when all you needed was ImgBurn a free, updated, measly 1.5MB program?

Dittos to what MysticE said. The minute you upgrade to a newer DVD burner, you will find that version 6 of Nero won't support it -- then you're back to the same troubles. Wean yourself from dependency on Nero by switching to ImgBurn. You'll be a much happier camper in the long run.

Besides, sscottsa315's Nero 6 is an OEM version, so it's most likely keyed to that drive, anyway, and won't work if that drive isn't in the system.

Nero 8 should have worked okay with that drive - in theory - but it wouldn't have been specifically designed to work with it as the OEM 6 install was.

But, yeah, I'll add another vote for Imgburn.

    In deeply technical terms:

    Nero bad.
    Imgburn good.
