  1. I want to convert VOB-files to .mov in order to import them into Final Cut Express. I want as little compression as possible on both video and sound, I donīt want to lose any quality.
All I want to do is some cuts and editing in FCE and then burn it on a DVD.
Iīm using MacOSX 10.4.11 and ffmpegX for conversion.

    Best regards

Moving you to our mac section.

I would try Cinematize or MPEG StreamCLip.

  3. Forgot to ask the question:
What target format should I choose in ffmegx and what other values and options should I use to get as high quality as possible?

If going into FCE, you'll have to deal with re-rendering the footage
after import into the timeline if you go as a .mov.
If you go DV Stream, then the footage will not have to
be re-rendered upon import to the timeline.

If you choose to go .mov, then from Mpeg-Streamclip export
with quality set to no less than 95%, and choose the Apple Motion JPeg-A
codec, with AIFF 48.1 khz 16bit audio and this wil make you a HQ .mov file.
But have enough target space for the file, it will be huge.

if all you have is ffmpegx, I would go DV video, as ffmpegx will only
let you do .mov using the .mp4 codec, and that will be compressed,
and will have to re-render into FCE as DV Stream anyway for
it to be usable into the Timeline.
