I was experimenting with converting a PAL dvd (with 2 sub streams) to Ntsc. FAVC did a sample perfectly, but it doesn't carry over subtitle streams. They have to be added manually and they need to be .srt. Unfortunately the two subtitle streams are .sup (after demuxing the original VOB using Pgcdemux) and FAVC won't accept them. I get an input error.
I tried demuxing the resulting Ntsc VOB and remuxing with the two .sups in Muxman, but it was screwed up.

How do I change the sups to srt? I tried Subrip, and Dvdsubedit and they don't do an entire stream (each line needs to be manually okayed). Assuming I can change them to .srt, will FAVC take care of the different frame rate, or do I need to change subs frame rate, too?

It depends how favc converts to ntsc. If it change the length of the video you must also adjust the subtitles(compare the original with the converted one). You can use subtitle workshop to adjust the srt subtitle.

  3. To get SUP to SRT, first convert to IDX/SUB (VobSubs) instantly using SubtitleCreator, and then OCR to SRT using SubRip or somesuch. Or open the IFO in SubRip and OCR from there. You can try opening the SUP file or VOBs in DVDSubEdit and using the automatic SRT converter, but you'd better proofread them carefully afterwards.

I think FAVC keeps the length the same as the source when doing a PAL2NTSC conversion, so the subs should be good to go after being converted to SRT.

I installed the latest beta of Subtitlecreator yesterday and it was working, but now I get a run error. Tried uninstalling/rebooting and installing the earlier program and that won't work either. A version is in the FAVC unzipped folder and I was running FAVC earlier, don't know if that had something to do with it. Deleted FAVC but Subtitlecreator still gets run error.

I used VSRip to make a IDX/SUB file from the VOB, but SubRip won't recognize it. If it did, would it require line by line manual checking, same as if I loaded the VOB, or would it change both subtitle streams entirely?

I don't see any automatic OCR conversion with Dvdsubedit. That also seems to be line per line.

I'm beginning to think I should try my first solution again - demux the final converted VOB, then remux with the two SUPs. Maybe the problem first time was the framerate of the SUPs needed to be converted. I'll research it, though feel free to suggest a program that does subtitle framerate adjustment.

What do you think OCR is? Yes, you have to type in each letter once, but after the first time it should recognize it. It's slow at the beginning and gets very fast very quickly.
I don't see any automatic OCR conversion with Dvdsubedit.
Open all the VOBs and in the bottom right hit "Run OCR" followed by "Save SRT". It's very quick, but the results are pretty funky, in my opinion.

The fact that Muxman "screwed up" has nothing to do with the framerate. What was the problem? If you don't know, check the Muxman log in the root of the C drive. If I had to guess based on no evidence at all, I'd say you loaded them incorrectly. Either that or you didn't wait for it to finish.

I already mentioned that I don't believe FAVC changes the length, so no framerate conversion should be necessary.

If you want to change the framerate, convert SUP to IDX/SUB (SubtitleCreator), change the framerate from 25->23.976fps using VobSub Cutter (comes included in the VobSub package). Change back to SUP or OCR from there (SubRip).

manona - it would be civil if you kept your insults and insinuations to yourself when posting advice.

  7. I patiently if matter-of-factly tried to help you with your problem, and you thought I was being insulting? You ain't seen nothing yet.

You make me repeat myself. You don't provide enough information. You don't provide the requested information (what was the Muxman problem again?). You don't show even a shred of intelligence or common sense. Ungrateful wretch. It's time you took up another hobby. Maybe stamp collecting will be more in line with your meager abilities.
