I've done a couple Pal->Ntsc dvd conversions with FAVC. They came out very well, but I noticed the total run time is about the same. There's a PAL dvd I'd like to get and convert but its runtime is given as 109 minutes. I know (from a laserdisc, cablecast and imdb) the movie is 113 minutes. So this seems to be an instance where the PAL dvd might be sped up a small amount. Is there a "1-click" program that would make the correct percentage changes for this case? Can FAVC? I know FAVC can accept scripts but I'm not up on that type of programming.

FAVC uses the "Pulldown Method" to do PAL to NTSC conversions. The basic idea is that the video is resized to NTSC resolution, and encoded at PAL framerates. Pulldown flags are then applied to get the requisite 29.970 fps during playback on NTSC equipment.
This method has the advantage that the audio does not need to be altered because the actual number of frames, and base framerate (and therefore running time) is not affected.
If you want to convert to PAL by slowing down the video to compensate for the original speed up you will have to do it manually. Besweet has presets for re-encoding audio at the appropriate length, and avisynth will be able to adjust your video using the fps commands. Look up the AVISynth manual (avisynth.org) and read up assumefps, changefps etc to work out which you need.Read my blog here.

The runtime does seem to be about 4% shorter.
Another Pal dvd release from the same distributor shows almost the same runtime as the known Ntsc version. I think that movie was originally made by a UK film company, so perhaps that's why it's runtime would be the same.
