What can I use, whether its via computer or stand alone to record my nascar races that are broadcast over the air. I have a Sharp Aquos 46" 1080p LCD. I also have a DVR, howerver it cannot record ATSC, it is older. What is out there that may be an option? I would like to be able to timer record and play back without any hassle. I also have an Xbox 360 set up as an extender for my Vista x64 media center, so maybe a tuner card through the pc. That is how a playback a lot of Divx and 1080p wmd and .avi's. Thanks, I know these are a lot of questions, but I have been lurking this site since it was dvd-r help.com.

Get an HD tuner card for your PC. Fusion cards are really good.

Will I be able to play what I record back on my TV?? Thats really what I am looking for. It doesn't matter where I record, I just want to be able to play back on my tv. Thanks,

I don't want to totally change the subject, but if you are wanting to watch/record all of the races and you are willing to spend money to do it, then simply upgrade your cable or SAT system with a DVR from your provider.
Otherwise, you won't see all of the races anyway. As with last years season, some of the races will be broadcast on ESPN and TNT.Google is your Friend -
HELP----
I am new to all this and all I want to do is record tv to my Magnavox bzv420mw8 dvdr/vcr unit. I have cable but no cable box and the manual says I need an external tuner...what is that?
Thanks,

OK, this is backpedaling to antiquity, but I need some help. My wife has been timer recording her "Soap" to a VCR for along time. The VCR finally tired of the drivel...and quit. She wants to continue to use this format. I've seen some reasonably inexpensive DVD/VCR Combos with an HD tuner. If I buy one of these things...she's interested only in the VCR function...the DVD side would never be used as I record my stuff on a cable DVR...can I HDMI the Panasonic DVD/VCR to a Sony 32" HDTV and assure her she can again record her Soap on the VCR and play it back at her leisure?
