I got an MKV video on here which plays fine with no stutters at all. Using VLC on here with no additional codecs installed at all.

Played it on the pc downstairs and the playback was incredibly stuttery on VLC>
I have tried it on many other media players even installing k-lite codec pack made no difference.
So i restored the pc back to how it was when i just had VLC on it.

The PC downstairs is quyite high tech i would have thought it would handle it properly..
The file is 720p h264 hd dvd rip.
The pc down stairs is attached to a huge 42" tv screen through VGA, dont know if that would be an issue?
    It handles DivX fine.
The problematic pc downstairs is Intel P4, 3:00 Ghz 1 GB Ram.

The one it works on (this one) is Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 Ghz with 2 Gb RAM.

Would that be anything to do with the reason play back is not stuttery on here?

    Please let me know.

    Many thanks.

I suspect that the PC is struggling with 720p video. If you have a suitable GFX card then using MPC HC with DXVA enabled should help. Also, instead of codec packs try FFDShow and the Haali splitter.

The core 2 duo is much much much faster so it's probably why it works better.

But try play with mpc or mpc-hc together with latest ffdshow or coreavc(trial available). Don't install any codec packs.
