This started a week ago, what should I do to solve this problem?

Also, I am having trouble getting subtitles to work with one particular movie.

When I use windows media player, or windows media player classic, the speech volume is very low. When I use VLC media player, it seems to be much better.

Im not using a disc, Im using SRT files.

  4. Your DirectShow AC3 decoder is set up to output 6 discreet channels but your system only has 2 speakers (maybe a sub too?). The center channel, the one with the dialog, is not going to any speaker. Change the AC3 decoder to downmix 5.1 to 2.0 (stereo).

VLC uses its own internal AC3 decoder so it isn't effected by the DirectShow decoding.
