Differences between converting from ifo/vob to avi

I have ripped a dvd using dvd decrypter and now have an ifo and vob file.

I then used AutoGK to convert the file to avi (xvid). I set the file size to be 700MB maximum. The converted video is 480 x 368 and is 699MB.

Then I used handbrake to convert the vob file. I also set the maximum size to 700 MB and used the avi xvid format. Yet this video is 704 x 572 and is only 493 MB.

Why is there such a difference between two programs?

As AutoGK has a known issue with making undersized files if an incorrect version of XviD is installed and ESS option is selected [packed bitstream], did you possibly get those stats backwards, what is length, are both movies complete? Maybe Handbrake has an issue with AutoGK's XviD. Use Portable AutoGK [internal XviD] to allow other apps to install their own required version [current XviD might have to be manually uninstalled first].

Intending to try the new version of Handbrake myself especially since it appears to accept any input, such as FLV etc.

I have just tried the conversion again on both programs and have found that what I mentioned in the first post is correct. Both movies are complete.

The facts I stated in the first post are still the same, any ideas why is there such a difference between two programs?
