I'm trying to make a single M4V file with Handbrake from the two discs of The Godfather II. I'd hoped simply to be able to make a seamless join with DVD2OneX but that exceeds the 9 VOB limit. I know I could extract to an MPG but then I imagine I'd probably lose at least the chapters and maybe the subtitles. Is there any way of achieving my objective of a single chaptered and subbed file ?

Chaptered and Subbed?
geez don't ask for much huhn?
if you could live with Hard Subs, then there's a way to do it.
(hard code your subs by playing the movies in a playlist in
VLC, hijacking the movie while playing with iShowU to DV Stream,
and then using either Toast 8 or higher or Compressor to
create your DVD targeted to a DVD-9 size)
if you have to have SELECTABLE subs, and chapters, there's a way
to do it, but its expensive. (Export Both movies as elementary
streams and import into DVD Studio Pro. You'll lose the subs,
but you can recreate in Subtitler or Title Lab and export to a
DVD Studio Pro compatible file)
If you could live without the subs, AND the chapters then you could
do it cheaply, using Visual Hub. (import both Main Features of
both discs, into VisualHub, set target to DVD-9, encode)."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

DVD2one V2.3.0
Here is a new version of DVD2one with the following new features:
* New option for movie-only and join mode: Target. This option defines what type of output files will be created:
o DVD Player: this is the default target and will create a dvd-video fileset that will play on any dvd player.
o Media Player: this will output a single VOB file which should play on most media players.
o PS3 USB HDD: this is a special mode for creating a single VOB file that will play directly from an USB Hard Disk Drive on the PS3. It does essentially the same as target Media Player, but the output size is automatically limited to 4GB. Also special warnings are displayed for audio and subtitle tracks that can not be played from the XMB. Please read manual for more info.
* New advanced option: support for dvd-video filesets bigger than 9GB:
o The extra data is place in the 9th VOB file (thanks to Blutach for the idea!).
o This option can be used to create large joins for re-encoding with other tools.
o The output plays perfectly fine with Apple DVD player, VLC, PowerDVD and Media Player Classic.
o Please note that dvd-video filesets bigger than 9GB are not compliant and may not work properly with other 3rd party tools or dvd players. -
Thanks for the suggestions terry but I want to end up with an M4V with hardcoded subs at least and preferably with chapters but they're not essential.
I'm happy enough to boot into Windows or Ubuntu if there's something that'll do the trick.
Edit: twosocks, you posted while I was a-replyin' to terry but thanks very much. I hadn't thought to check in the advanced options but I'm now in the happy bunny club.
