I have a Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-ray player. From this website I have found the code to unlock what is described as 'DVD region-lock' and it appears that I have succeeded in doing this. I would also like to be sure that I have unlocked or can unlock the Blu-ray region-lock, which I believe will be a different challenge since Blu-ray regions are organised differently to DVD regions. A problem for me is that I suspect some commenters are using the acronym 'DVD' to refer to both as I don't see use of the correct Blu-ray term, 'BRD' (Blu-Ray Disk, as distinct from Digital Versatile Disk). So, my question is; does anyone know, specifically, how the Blu-ray region-lock (not the DVD region-lock) for a Samsung BD-P1500 is conquered?

No. But the most common acronym for Blu-ray discs is BD.

Others may have better info about the BD region unlock. I use AnyDVD to decrypt and none of those really matter.

    And welcome to our forums.

There's some BluRay player sold outside of North America that can have its DVD region checking unlocked, but this has nothing to do with BluRay zone unlocking. The only BluRay zone unlocking I am aware of involves expensive hardware modifications that add about $300 US to the cost of the player. I would think that what you have found will simply unlock the DVD part of the player and not anything else. To test you'll have to find a BluRay disc not coded for your zone and see if it plays. If I remember correctly, I believe the unlock code you have found does not work on BluRay players sold in North America, so Americans and Canadians should be aware of that.

Region-zone aside I've heard their are compatibility problems between the BDP1500 and certain Blu-Ray disc titles which can be fixed by a firmware update but this in turn will probably reinstate the original region-lock!

Ah, thanks ntscuser. There's something I hadn't thought of... I 'unlocked' my BD-P1500 for DVD's BEFORE I installed the firmware upgrade, so I'd better check that. I probably have to unlock it again! As regrds BD's, I guess unlocking the region-lock there will have to wait until someone 'susses' it out in the future. Cheers.
