    Hello.

I have VLC Media Player. I am playing a DVD movie. I am using VLC Media Player to capture what is on the screen and turn just that one image into a file.

COULD YOU PLEASE GIVE ME A GUIDE FOR THE COMPLEATE IDIOT ON HOW TO CAPTURE THE IMAGE ON THE SCREEN? I have not been able to do it, yet!

If you're using one of the more recent VLC versions, select Snapshot from the Video menu. I think the 0.8 and earlier versions had it under the File menu. (Keep in mind that the 'regular' download of 0.8.6 had a bug in the snapshot routine, if I remember correctly. There's a link to a fixed version somewhere on the VLC forums, or just update to the current 0.9 version.)

There should also be some settings in the preferences (output directory, output file format, etc.) that you can also set, but I haven't yet located them in the current version (only did a quick run through the preferences, just now )

(edit: Tried a snapshot with 0.9.6; it saved the screen capture to the My Documents\My Pictures directory, in JPEG format.)
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  3. You can also press Shift+s to take a snapshot. The function can be assigned to another key via Tools -> Preferences -> Hotkeys -> Take Video Snapshot.

You can change the default directory and file type via Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Video Snapshots...
