Looking at purchasing a Blu-ray player for use here in the USA with my NTSC HDTV. Looking over the specs for many of the Sony/Samsung/LG models they indicate support for MKV/MP4/AVI video files. But don't mention if they will support these formats in PAL to my NTSC TV. The manuals say they will only play NTSC discs, but what about PAL video files, do the machines convert PAL MKV/MP4/AVI to NTSC????
Thanks!!!!

I may be wild off the mark here but I thought that when a file is converted from its source media, PAL and NTSC do not come in to the equation.
So if your tv supports 25/50 fps then the video file should play.
The confusion arises since the Blu-ray player can not natively play PAL disks even if they are Region/Zone free.
Someone is welcome to correct me here. -
Pal mkv,mp4 and avi will play with no issues on a ntsc tv as long as they are encoded normally such as no head stripping and no higher than 4.1 profile level.Tested on sony, samsung and sanyo hdtvs with sony blu-ray player,lg blu-ray player and samsung tv media player.
I think,therefore i am a hamster.
