    Greetings to all,

I'd like to burn some .avi files onto DVDs for a friend in Australia, who will play them on a regular DVD player. I'm using Toast, which has an option for burning PAL disks. However, do I need to ensure that the frame rate of the .avi file is also 25 fps (the PAL frame rate), or will Toast convert the original frame rate as needed? (I ask because some of the avi files are 23 fps).

Most PAL DVD players will play an NTSC DVD disc no problem. This eliminates all the conversion loss.

OK, so just to check, the frame rate of the avi file is not important?

What is your source avi? DV camcorder video?

Just standard 720x480i 29.97 fps NTSC DVD. No need to convert frame rate or resolution for most all PAL DVD players.

Should have mentioned progressive 23.976 fps is not supported on all PAL DVD players unless hard telecined to 29.97 fps.

So are you talking about a standard MPEG2 DVD or Divx/xvid avi? If the latter all bets off. Ask your friend what he can play on his player or convert to standard NTSC DVD MPeg2 format which will play. Audio must be MP2 or AC3.

You are hilarious edDV! I think you know as well as I do that the source is NOT DV camcorder video.
