Hello, I think my problem is related to the fact that I installed the voxware audio codec on my computer today. I needed to convert an avi file with voxware audio to mp3 audio so I installed the voxware codec.. Now many avi files will not play.. I use BS player where I just geta black screen.(no sound and no progress). when I also try to open in Windows media player where I get a picture, but it doesnt play(No progress) I tried uninstalling the voxware, but Im not sure if I did it right as the way I had to install it was to right click on a voxacm setup info file and choose install. It doesnt show as an installed program, but I think it just added registry entries and som .ax files to my system32 folder. I only use xvid as a video codec. Anyone ever havea problem like this, or any suggestions? I dont think its my player, because earlier today before I installed it, I was using a subtitle editor and the same videos were playing no problem in that, but now they wont.. Any help would be much appreciated.. thanks..

If you have the 'restore' function available in XP, try restoring to a date before you installed the software.

Also, I would try VLC Media Player and see if it displays your videos correctly. It uses it's own codecs, so one way to tell if your installed codecs are at fault. But installing a audio codec should not have caused all those problems. You may have installed something else. I would consider running a virus scan to see it you have a problem there. Try Malware Bytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

I tried using VLC and they played allright (some were kinda skipping, but they played). Im pretty sure it isnt my video codec because they all played fine the day before.. The only things I installed were the voxware audio and avi2dvd. Im pretty sure they were not malware because I got them both from the distributors web sites. Even if it is not a problem with Voxware, I still want to know how to get it off my computer. I am very scrutinous when it comes to whats on my computer and I dont want anything on there that I dont want. Thanks..

hmm. I tried a few things.. such as opening my registry and manually deleting anything related to voxware and also in my system32 folder.. I also uninstalled nero as I noticed a few of the registry entries were similar.. I now get the video playing fine, but absolutly no audio.. I may just reinstall my OS (XP). This may be faster than trying to mess with this crap. All I know is I will never install Voxware again... The weird thing is that it is only half of my videos that dont play, I have compared them in Gspot and they all have the same type of encoding and it says my codecs are installed.. ohh well.. Thanks.

It's a lot simpler to use a Restore Point than guess.
