I just attached my new Samsung 1080P 32" tv (LN32A550) to my HP DV2700 14" laptop. The laptop only has VGA out, no DVI or HDMI.

The TV has PC IN (VGA), as well as HDMI and DVI.

    I use Windows Vista.

It worked as soon as I plugged in my VGA to VGA cable, however, unless I reduce my laptop resolution 800x600, the HDTV will only show a partial screen. If I set the laptop at full resolution, then the corresponding screen size on the TV will to large so the borders and scrolling tabs are off the TV screen?

    Any hints.

I assume VGA to VGA is my only choice, but I hate to waste those DVI and HDMI inputs on the TV.[b]

You may have to tell your TV that the input is VGA

Should be. Once you do that, and set your laptop's external monitor to the native resolution of your TV, you should get 1:1 pixel mapping

Still no good. I have to set the laptop resolution at minimum, 800x600, to get the full screen on the TV? If I set the laptop resolution higher, the right side of tv screen is not complete and does not show my full laptop desktop.

caN YOU independently set the tv resolution without upsetting the laptop resolution? They seem to work in tandem.

  7. Try 1920x1080 at 60 Hz. I run my older Samsung LNT-4665 that way (via HMDI but you should be able to use VGA too).

Look in your HDTV manual. It will tell you what resolutions and refresh rates are supported.

You may also have to update the drivers on your laptop if you haven't in a while.
