How to play and convert the RealMedia VBR?

I got a RealMedia VBR movie downloaded from the website but neither play it with the PowerDVD in a computer nor do it in a DVD player. Does anyone know how to play the RealMedia VBR in a computer and whether it is possible to convert the RealMedia VBR into the DVD format?

Drag 'n' drop the RMVB into ConvertXtoDVD version 3 and it'll spit out a nice DVD.

Free; AviSynth plus HcEnc. Then author with the software of your choice.

I use VLC media player, just add these files in the VLC media player plugin folder. {I added from Mplayer's extra codec packs} The codecs work. I've already tried it on my computer.

You may have already discovered this, but highly compressed, proprietary formats like Real VBR are are difficult to convert. ConvertX does a fair job and and some other similar converters may work. I use VirtualDub Mod and AviSynth to open the Real VBR files using a small AVS script. Then I convert to whatever AVI type format I want. You could also probably frameserve the output directly to a MPEG encoder if that's your final output. That's likely what ConvertX and other converters will do. Using AviSynth and VD gives you a lot more control of the final product. I find this the best way to achive the best quality from those type of files.
